LIGHT VEHICLE (LV) MECHANIC

Key Performance Areas:

 

·         Perform scheduled servicing, repairs and component overhauls.

·         Conduct thorough pre-checks and report deviations by creating works requests.

·         Conduct monthly and/or scheduled 10,000km interval services on LDV’s and report defects by creating works requests.

·         Test drives LDV’s as appropriate.

·         Ensure reliability of LDV’s.

·         Respond to break downs in the shortest possible time and communicate LDV’s availability to customer / user when repairs are completed.

·         Recovery of broken down LDV’s when reported.

·         Trouble shoot and repair on LDV’s.

·         Ensure personal tools is available, in good conditions and adequate in quantity and sort of tools to complete jobs efficiently.

·         Ensure all specialized tools and equipment used during the shift is cleaned and returned to the tool store by the end of shift.

·         Ensure delegated safety and housekeeping tasks are completed and associated works orders signed of and returned to supervisor or planning.

·         Conduct repairs to minor body damage if and when required.

·         Conduct wheel alignment as required.

·         Report body damage to supervisor if and when noticed.

·         Conduct planned task observations on Mechanic assistants and assistant mechanics as well as general labourers when required.

·         Complete pre-use checklist before operating any mobile equipment and deviations actioned to ensure equipment are safe for operation.

Ensure adequate delegation of work according to the competencies and skills of the Assistant Mechanics, Mechanic assistants and General

  • Always be customer orientated and keep users informed of the status of their vehicles.
  • Work to ensure that procedures are conducted in accordance with the company compliance and health and safety management system

·         Provide accurate servicing information for completion of maintenance records of all servicing and repairs.

·         Compile accurate spare parts list with part number to allow ordering of spares to repair defects.

·         Complete daily works orders for all work completed and to return such work orders to the planning office or supervisor daily.

·         Ensure component change out slips are correctly completed and returned to planning department as soon as the job is completed.

·         Keep track of vehicle licenses expiring.

 


 C. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB (why does the position exist – to achieve what?)

 

To conduct daily-specialized mechanical repair and maintenance work on Light Duty Vehicles and equipment.

 

D. JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Minimum Educational Qualification (NQF Level)

Grade 12.

Qualified Earthmoving Diesel Mechanic or Motor Mechanic Trade Certificate (National Trade Certificate).

NQF Level 5.

Minimum Experience Required

Five (5) years’ mechanical work experience on Light Delivery Vehicles.

 

Special Requirements / Licences

(i.e. Registered with Engineering Council)

 

Valid Code BE driver’s licence.
